Model 290 Imperial

It is the only concert grand in the world to have nine sub-bass notes, down to bottom C, giving it a full eight octave compass keyboard. These extra notes enable some compositions to be accurately performed, which were originally scored with lower notes, by composers such as Bartók, Debussy, Ravel and Busoni. Special construction features have a very positive influence on the overtones produced when the piano is played. It helps to create the maximum range of both power and volume while still allowing the smallest and most subtle variations in sound to be heard across the whole range of the piano.

Model 225

The Bösendorfer half concert grand has a very wide dynamic sound range considering its size, which results from its unique design and construction. It can produce many different colors of sound, allowing the pianist to play subtle nuances from the softest Pianissimo to the loudest Fortissimo. The Model 225 has four additional sub-bass keys which not only extends the bass range of the piano to bottom F, but also provides a larger soundboard to help the instrument produce more volume when required to do so. With this conception the Model 225 is ideally suited for chamber music concerts.

Model 170

Although the smallest of the grand pianos made by Bösendorfer is just 170 cms long (5' 8"), the Model 170 has an unsurpassed volume of sound and dynamic range for an instrument of its size. Due to its particular construction, the sound quality in the bass and the variety of the range of colors that can be achieved combine to produce an overall exciting experience when playing this Bösendorfer. Many think of a Grand Piano in Ebony Polish but, in fact, Bösendorfer pianos can be produced in a variety of wood finishes including Mahogany, Rosewood, Bird´s Eye Maple, Walnut or even a finish customised to your own specific requirements.

Model 130 Classic

"... with the sound of a grand piano" is the legendary saying associated with Bösendorfer´s upright piano. The clear, sustaining Bösendorfer sound is typical for both the upright piano and the grand piano, as is their unique construction, selected materials and excellent finishing. The action and keyboard are precisely installed to ensure an ideal touch and the best possible transfer of power with a maximum degree of control. Surfaces, curves and edges are designed to fit perfectly and blend to produce an overall harmonic appearance. Model 185

The Bösendorfer Model 185 is a new Model showcasing an ideal size for both private and institutional use. There are four string sections with a Bass section of 26 notes: 9 single strung and 17 bichords. The frame is an open plank design which makes tuning easier while guaranteeing increased tuning stability. In addition to Bösendorfers usual construction features which include a removable Capo D'astro bar and an open wrest plank, the Model 185 has its own special character given by the shape of the outer rim casework.

Model 214

Model 280

This concert grand piano is a completely new model. The keyboard and action were developed specifically for the Model Concert Grand 280, taking into account the new shape of the piano. The keyboard has graduated key lengths from the bass to the treble, and the hammerhead weights are graduated accordingly, hereby ensuring a perfectly balanced touch for the action and keyboard. The combination of a separately cast Capo-D'astro bar with a partial duplex system of stringing for the treble area creates the conditions required for the customary colorful timbre Bösendorfer is renowned for. These details help to secure the perfect dynamic response.

Model 200

The Model 200 is the ideal salon grand made by Bösendorfer. In keeping with the tradition of Viennese musical life at the beginning of the Biedermeier period, Bösendorfer constructed their Model 200, the Bösendorfer salon grand, with its elegantly round shaped rim. It is essential when playing the piano in smaller rooms, for the clarity of sound to be perfect, even at lower volumes, and the piano action and keyboard to be completely controllable to allow precise playing. The Model 200 has a well balanced singing sustaining tone, beautifully matched across its complete range, and fulfills the highest musical requirements.

Amboyna Veneer

Country of origin: Indonesia (the preferred veneer comes particularly from the Andaman Islands). The grain texture is one of the most seldom utilized and thus is among the most exclusive on earth. The burls are often very small, and the precious sheets of veneer come in small dimensions. The colors range from deep yellowish-orange to dark red. After finishing the surface, the grain texture of amboyna wood has depth and richness unmatched in other textured woods.

Bubinga Veneer

Bubinga wood comes from the rainforests of equatorial Africa. The very hard wood is heavy, dense, and has a particularly fine-grained texture. It has a thin reddish-brown to violet grain on a light background. This decorative veneer is ideal for furniture, in cabinet making, and is also found on the dashboards of many exclusive cars.

Mahogany Veneer

Mahogany trees grow up to 50 meters high (160+ feet) and can have a diameter of up to 2 meters (6+ feet). Veneers of light reddish-brown to deep brownish-red with dark streaks are made from this wood. The veneers are of medium hardness, moderate strength and uniform structure, with a very even grain. The initially light reddish to reddish-brown hue darkens with time to the typically warm mahogany tones with a golden shimmer.

Macassar Veneer

Macassar is a type of ebony found mainly on the islands of Sulawesi and the Moluccas, in Indonesia. The rare black-red striped veneers are particularly attractive with a characteristic shiny, decorative texture. Its ease of use in woodworking makes it suitable for planing, carving and polishing. Macassar ebony is therefore highly desirable, especially for musical instruments and fine furniture.

Pommele Veneer

Pommele, also known by the name Sapeli Pommele, is found throughout the African continent. The unique grain pattern of the pommele is used to produce veneers with a beautiful texture and striking surface. The excellent physical characteristics of this type of wood permit a wide variety of finishes - staining, lacquering, polishing and, in particular, the application of high gloss surfaces.

Pyramid Mahogany Veneer

Pyramid mahogany comes from controlled, licensed forests in West Africa. Rough "pyramid" sections are sawn from the appropriate forks in the trees. The veneers made from this wood are very beautiful due to the unique smooth cut and the remarkable and decorative pyramid design that reflects light from deep within the grain. The initially light red to reddish-brown color darkens with time to the typically warm mahogany tones with a golden shimmer. The superb workmanship of this fine wood by Bösendorfer craftsmen turns every instrument into an individual masterpiece.

Rosewood Veneer

Native to Brazil and South America, rosewood trees grow to heights of up to 10 meters (33 feet). The wood is yellowish-pink with irregular red streaks with a delicate porous texture which in turn produces a very decorative veneer. One of the most expensive and beautiful types of wood, it is often used for luxury items such as pianos and exquisite furniture.

Birdseye Maple Veneer

Birdseye Maple (acer saccharum) has a figured grain texture and is a variant of the hard sugar maple tree that grows in the northeastern part of North America. The wood is largely light-colored and has a fine porous structure. The so-called "birdseyes" are 3 to 5 mm in diameter, located at intervals of about one centimeter apart. Used in high-quality residential furniture and for the interior paneling of luxury limousines, birdseye maple veneer is very delicate and glossy. All Bösendorfer grand pianos are available in birdseye maple.

Walnut Veneer

Walnut trees that grow to 30 meters (100 feet) in height and have a diameter of 2 meters (6+ feet) are the raw materials used for producing a calming, figured veneer. Walnut has been used for exclusive interior wall paneling, furniture and keyboard instruments since the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods.

Wenge Veneer

Wenge trees are native to Africa (Western Africa, Gabon, Cameroon, Congo, Zaire). Wenge is very porous, and makes a valuable veneer the color of black coffee with light brown streaks. This decorative wood features a simple elegance and is used for high-quality residential furniture.

Model Johann Strauss

The Model Johann Strauss produced today is inspired by the instrument owned by the master himself. It combines elements taken from different periods in history, as is reflected and they are reflected in the beautifully carved legs, the ornamental fretwork of the music desk and the decorated inner side of the fallboard. The under side of the lid and inner rim are each finished in striking Maple wood, and the Lyre is created in the shape of the classic Greek instrument, bending the bow to the beginnings of the occidental music culture in representing the manufacturing of musical instruments, of which Bösendorfer plays such an important role. Upon request all Bösendorfer pianos can be delivered in a Johann Strauss cabinet style.

Model Frédéric Chopin

To celebrate and commemorate 150 years of the death of Frédéric Chopin, Bösendorfer has designed this exclusive masterpiece using the superior technical workmanship Bösendorfer pianos are renowned for. The beautifully detailed hand-carvings were inspired by the pianos that Chopin played while on tour in England and Scotland in 1848. They are incorporated into the Chopin Model to reflect the care the English piano builders took to produce their lavish works of art. The commemorative hand-engraved plaque on the fallboard is produced in solid silver, followed by a gold plated, and features the composer's signature.

This model is available in different sizes, veneers and finishes and is supplied with an exclusive matching bench.

Model Liszt

This model was built in honour of the exceptional pianist and composer Franz Liszt who was very closely connected with Bösendorfer very tightly. The Bösendorfer grand was the only piano which could stand his powerful playing style. Due to his unique technique, young Liszt broke down every piano until he met a Bösendorfer grand. An original painting in the Bösendorfer Hall shows Liszt playing a concert for the emperor Franz Josef and the Court on a Bösendorfer grand piano.

The cabinet model Liszt is veneered in Vavona and available in the size 185. During the era of Franz Liszt, making music at home was very popular. In many homes small models of grands like the 185 could be found.

Model Louis XVI

In this model the distinguished style representative of the Baroque period blends into the lively, whimsical rococo-one of the last sparks of life in the nobility's court culture. The forcefulness of the Baroque style turns into graciousness in rococo, and the passion transforms into poise. The proportions are well balanced and refined, the decorations and flourishes graceful and dainty.

The Louis XVI model by Bösendorfer features smooth elegant shapes built with supreme craftsmanship. The Louis XVI model is available in all sizes and veneers with an exclusive, matching bench.

Model Vienna

In most people's minds, Vienna represents a musical tradition that reached its climax in the 19th century. Beethoven, Schubert, Strauss, Brahms and Liszt, to name just a few, shaped the world of music. For us they are as alive today as they ever were. Their glorious music lays its counterpart in the splendid architecture of the time, which is found on the Ringstrasse. The buildings were designed by the leading architects of the period, including Theophil Hansen who also designed a Bösendorfe. Taking this tradition as their model, the masters at Bösendorfer have created a grand piano which embodies the essential stylistic features of the 19th century. The classicist movement of the early 19th century, to some extent, replaced Baroque ornamental extravaganza by more subdued forms. This is the essence of the model "Vienna".

Model Yacht

This piano design was a commissioned by former French Bösendorfer partner, Daniel Magne, for a Cote D'Azur Yacht owner in the mid-80s.

The Yacht design was so striking and successful that Bösendorfer Vienna incorporated it into its "special design" group of models.

Model Franz Schubert

On the occasion of the Franz Schubert memorial year 1997, Bösendorfer created a special edition: the exquisite Franz Schubert model. The instrument has a veneer of cherry wood and combines elements of the Biedermeier period with more contemporary eras. The shape of the legs, the lyre and the music holder are typical of the Biedermeir period. The fallboard is decorated with hand-made medal produced by Viennese porcelain manufacturer Augarten and contains a portrait of Franz Schubert along with the name "Bösendorfer". The design of the Franz Schubert grand piano was modeled after the clear, slightly curved lines of Biedermeier furniture, following the construction techniques of the time to guarantee high quality, indicative of Bösendorfer pianos even today.

Model Senator

The exceptionally majestic casework of the Senator model is created using of a combination of two distinct wood veneers. The precise craftsmanship of the Bösendorfer Masters allow each Bösendorfer Senator model to be a unique piece of art for music lovers with the most exclusive and demanding expectations.

Model Baroque

The Baroque Model, built with high-quality craftsmanship and special designs, refers directly to the well-known era that lasted from the end of the 16th-Century until about 1730. The Baroque influence spread from Rome to all Catholic countries, quickly flourishing into the specific baroque style. Strong emotions are expressed in curved forms, individual elements are subordinate to the whole, and the stress is on power and tension. Dynamic movements, three-dimensional forms and vibrations are all features of this era. The hand-carved piano legs and ornaments are unique pieces and are crafted by Bösendorfer's piano builders specifically for the Baroque Model.

Model Artisan

The Model Artisan showcases an extraordinary display of craftsmanship using hand inlay techniques in working with such rich exotic woods as Aruba, Burl Amboyna, Burl Maple, European Walnut, Cherry and figured Mahogany. It re-creates the ornamentation used in the designs of the historic 19th and 20th-Century pianos. The Artisan Model can be supplied in any size or finish combination of the Bösendorfer pianos.

Model Design by F.A. Porsche

The new Bösendorfer Porsche grand piano was designed by F.A. Porsche and developed by Bösendorfer, two internationally reputed European Companies. Representing a novel contemporary approach to piano design, this instrument is the proud holder of the European Red Dot Design Award for Engineering. In keeping with Bösendorfer's motto-"cherish traditions, transcend limits"-this model incorporates ground-breaking new design features that will have a lasting impact on piano design development.
