About Music Exchange

Music Exchange is a factory authorized dealer for Yamaha Acoustic Pianos; Yamaha Clavinova Digital Pianos; Yamaha Contemporary Pianos; Yamaha Personal Pianos; Yamaha Silent Pianos and Yamaha Disklavier Player Pianos.

We have the largest inventory of Yamaha pianos in Northern California, drawing on inventory located in our 18,000 square foot warehouse centrally located in Vacaville, CA.

We are also a factory authorized dealer for Wyman pianos and Roland Atelier Home Organs.

The company we know today as Music Exchange began in the Bay Area of Northern California as Chaney’s Pianos & Organs. Bob Chaney began working for a local Walnut Creek East Bay piano dealer in their delivery department while still in high school. This youthful entrepreneur soon began helping in the pianos and organ department and in 1969, at the age of eighteen, he opened Chaney’s Pianos and Organs. He developed a reputation for excellence in sales and service in Walnut Creek and throughout the Bay Area. His sales staff included Bob Coslett heading up the piano department and a team of in-store private piano teachers. Chaney’s Pianos and Organs soon recognized the importance of cooperative relationships with talented people in keyboard education as well as piano and organ technical service. In addition to the onsite piano and organ education programs, they began networking with private piano teachers in Walnut Creek, East Bay, surrounding area cities as well as the greater bay area.

In the early 1970’s Bob Chaney hired two new people to expand the in-store staff at Chaney’s Pianos and Organs. Bill Kloos was a piano sales consultant and Paul Funston specialized in teaching seniors in a group organ class environment.

In 1980, Bob choose an early retirement from retail piano and organ sales. Bill and Paul were the logical successors. With Bill’s expertise in finance and piano sales and Paul’s experience in keyboard education and customer service, Bob felt he had chosen the right people to support long term customer service and who placed importance on piano and organ education.

The years following 1980 have been filled with new growth for Music Exchange Inc. while maintaining the personalized customer relationships begun in 1969. Still family owned companies, we now have showrooms in Walnut Creek, Dublin, Sacramento, Newcastle, Santa Rosa and San Francisco.
